A Southern California native, Dr. Joseph Raleigh graduated summa cum laude from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. He completed a small animal rotating internship at the University of Pennsylvania’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital, followed by a rigorous three-year residency in Small Animal Surgery at UC Davis.

As a board-certified veterinary surgeon, Dr. Raleigh offers a comprehensive range of surgical services, including orthopedic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive procedures. His clinical focus lies in advancing surgical techniques with a strong emphasis on minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and interventional radiology (IR), both of which significantly reduce postoperative pain, shorten recovery times, and improve patient outcomes.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Raleigh is a dedicated researcher and educator. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and his work has earned multiple research awards. His current research interests include:

  • Minimally invasive pericardiectomy and the incidence of ventricular fibrillation with vessel sealing devices
  • Outcomes associated with nasal planum squamous cell carcinoma in dogs
  • Evaluation of a novel implant design for canine humeral condylar fractures

Dr. Raleigh is also a sought-after lecturer, invited to speak both nationally and internationally. His speaking engagements have included the Western Veterinary Conference, the American College of Veterinary Surgeons annual conference, the Veterinary Endoscopy Society, and international veterinary programs in Thailand. He is a frequent guest instructor at the Oquendo Center, where he provides hands-on continuing education for both general practitioners and specialists.

In addition to academic writing, Dr. Raleigh regularly contributes practical articles to publications such as Clinician’s Brief, aimed at supporting the broader veterinary community. He is deeply committed to collaboration with primary care veterinarians and values the role of teamwork in providing the best possible care for patients.
