Dr. Ethan McEnroe is a first-generation American who grew up in Bakersfield, California. Inspired by his father, a dairy veterinarian, he spent much of his childhood accompanying him on farm calls and listening to bedtime stories from James Herriot. From an early age, he knew he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a veterinarian.
Dr. McEnroe earned his bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Chico State in 2013. During his undergraduate years, he worked as a veterinary assistant and, following graduation, spent time as a K–12 substitute teacher. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from UC Davis in 2018.
After veterinary school, Dr. McEnroe returned to the Chico area to work in a mixed-animal practice. In 2021, he and his family relocated to the Central Coast, where he joined a local 24/7 emergency veterinary hospital—first as an associate veterinarian, then as medical director. In the summer of 2023, he co-founded PetMed Urgent Care to bring high-quality, accessible urgent care services to the local pet community.
Outside of work, Dr. McEnroe enjoys spending time with his wife (his vet school sweetheart), their daughter, and their lively household of animals, including a chocolate Labrador, a Border Collie, three cats, and two horses. His hobbies include horseback riding, backpacking, golfing, attending conformation dog shows, and working alongside his wife on their property in Atascadero.
