Born and raised in San Francisco, California, Dr. Emma Devereux developed a love for animals early in life and knew from a young age that she wanted to become a veterinarian. Growing up, she spent her time playing soccer and tennis and riding horses whenever she had the chance.
Dr. Devereux earned degrees in evolutionary anthropology and biology from Duke University before spending two years living and conducting research in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, studying African elephants and buffalo. She then returned to California to attend the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2021.
Over the past five years, she has completed specialty training in small animal surgery in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Gainesville, Florida. She is excited to return to the West Coast with her husband, Dr. Colton Ramstrom, and their three dogs—Willow, Moose, and Mayhem—to begin this next chapter at Cerro Alto Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Hospital. She looks forward to providing compassionate, high-quality surgical care to pets along California’s Central Coast as a general small animal surgeon.
Outside of work, Dr. Devereux enjoys hiking with her canine beasts, reading (or nowadays, listening to audiobooks), and spending time with friends and family. Once she lands in California, she hopes to lean heavily into her lifelong dream of living with horses and farm animals, or perhaps get into some sort of athletic work with their young, crazy heeler puppy.
