Cerro Alto is considered a referral hospital, as we don’t offer primary or wellness care. Most of the pets who visit us have been referred by their primary care veterinarian.
While no referral is necessary, it’s ideal to collaborate with the veterinary team that knows your pet best and who can provide us with pertinent medical background, recent test results, and a history of previous illnesses or injuries that may aid in our ability to provide optimal care.
Once treatment or hospitalization is complete at Cerro Alto, your primary care veterinarian will likely manage any follow-up care. This approach allows us to supplement the care your dog or cat regularly receives while we act as an extension of your regular veterinary provider.
Patients visiting on an emergency basis are welcome without an appointment, 24/7. It is always helpful if you are able to call ahead to alert us of your estimated time of arrival.
Consultations with a specialist are available Monday – Friday by appointment. Once your appointment time is secured, our team will contact your pet’s primary care veterinarian to obtain pertinent medical records and any test results.

Each consultation will include a physical examination of your pet and if diagnostic tests or specific treatments are indicated, we will provide you with the recommended treatment plan along with related costs and answer any and all questions you may have.
